Product Description Just place this amazing doll in the water and she'll begin moving her arms and kicking her legs. She really swims! Set her arms in a swimming pose and she begins swimming when placed in water. Watch her paddle along the surface of the water with her face turned to the side. Dress her up in fun accessories when she's out of the water. Doll comes with slip-on mermaid tail, pair of flip-flop sandals, sunglasses, starfish water and squeaker toy, and headband. Measures 13" tall. Requires 3 "AAA" batteries, not included.
Amazon.com Product Description Baby Born is ready to go for a swim. Just pose her head and arms in the correct position, put her in the water, and she knows what to do. This doll is recommended for children age three and older. It's Fun to Watch Her in the Water Baby Born has sensors on her tummy that cause her to automatically start swimming the minute she hits the water, so there's no switch to worry about and no need to wind anything up. Just insert three AAA batteries (not included) in her back, and Baby Born is ready to swim. Your little girl will have fun taking the doll into the bathtub or pool with her. After Baby Born's swim or bath, dry her off, slide her feet into flip-flops, and cover her up with her mermaid skirt. If it's sunny, her headband and sunglasses will protect her sensitive eyes.

Durability: (what this means)
The Good: Doll actually swims, easy to operate
The Bad: Loud motor
In a Nutshell: Easy for a child to use, fun to play with | At a Glance Ages: 3 and older Requires: 3 AAA batteries | | | She Is a Strong Swimmer The doll is constructed of hard plastic with fully posable limbs and a head that turns 360 degrees. Embedded on the front of the doll are two very small sensors that, as soon as they touch water, cause the arms and legs to move. Baby Born is a vigorous swimmer; she moves her arms in full circles while kicking her legs. The design of this toy is excellent: The doll keeps her face out of the water and remains afloat as if she's actually swimming. Her clothing is bright and cheerful, and her pink nylon bathing suit dries quickly after removal. A matching sequined mermaid skirt (it covers her feet in a split fishtail) matches the bathing suit and gives her an outfit to wear when she's not in the water. Her accessories include flip-flops, sunglasses, and a headband. A small problem with the doll's sunglasses is that they fall off easily and don't fit properly across her nose. She Swims Fast, but Not Far For ideal balance, the manufacturer recommends holding the doll underwater until all the air bubbles disappear through the holes in her back. However, the doll's performance was excellent even without removing the excess air. In the event your three-year-old forgets the air-removal step, the doll should swim fine and evenly, without becoming unbalanced or listing to one side. For optimum results, it's best to have enough water in the tub (or pool) so the doll's legs can kick freely without coming into contact with a hard surface. Touching the bottom of the tub can cause her to swim crookedly. This, however, is not an issue with adequate water levels. Though the doll's form is excellent and she really does resemble a swimmer, she doesn't actually travel--a positive thing in general because it's the doll's activity that will appeal to your child, not the number of laps Baby Born completes. One minor quirk is that the motor powering this doll is very loud. What's in the Box Doll, bathing suit, mermaid skirt, flip-flops, sunglasses, headband, starfish.

As Advertised October 17, 2009 Jan Tex (Texas) Five year old granddaughter says the doll doesn't really swim. Take that for what it's worth. It works as advertised. Will probably be more fun in the summer when she can put the doll in the swimming pool.
A positive vote September 28, 2009 W. Chang I haven't witnessed the playing with this toy myself (was a gift), but I'm told it's fine and, for us, doesn't have many of the negatives people have experienced -- it turns on and off promptly, doesn't make too much noise, and, more importantly, the little girl who received it really loves it. An issue, however, *is* that the battery compartment doesn't have a seal (at least, not for us); to keep water from going in, we had to put duct tape/packing tape over it. Other than that, though, a positive vote. Note: our little girl plays with it in the pool; as far as playing during bath time goes, not too clear if she does that -- I guess that potentially could still be awkward.
Swim baby July 18, 2009 Nancy K. Jacobson (California) My daughter got this for her third birthday. The first doll we had took forever to sense the water and swim. I didn't think that was intended so I called the company in the US. They asked us to send it back but we live in Germany so I contacted the company in Germany via email since its made in Germany (a German product). We sent the doll back and as promised in a week the doll came back. We not only got a new doll no questions asked but they added a sleeper set for my daughter's trouble. We took the batteries out recently because its been hanging out in the bed and is a regular doll. The doll is well loved and works beautifully. Its quite fun in the tub. We haven't taken it swimming to the pool because I don't want another child mistreating it or have it get stolen. I only gave it 4 stars for durability since I'm not sure how well it will work after its been a "regular" baby for awhile. I'm hoping its just fine when my daughter wants to take her back to the tub. I have give to this toy 5 stars for the customer service we received. I love German toys. So far we have no complaints with any of them.
Noisy Swimmer June 2, 2009 Melonjar (Ohio) My 5 y.o. DD wanted this doll so badly. So we asked Grandma to get it for her for her bday. She was so excited to get it into the bathtub. However, once it hit the water, it started swimming and that was great, but it was so noisy. It's "motor" made grating noises. She took it out of the water and said, "Mommy, I don't like the doll's sound. I don't want to play with it". What a bummer. I suppose I wouldn't want to play with a baby doll that sounds like a car either. A waste of grandma's money and a sad little girl. The doll now sits in a box. Too bad.
POC May 30, 2009 VB Shopper (VA) This is a "piece of crap"...DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY! It does not work at all, not even 1 little motion, changed batteries still didn't work, even took it to Toys R Us to see if they knew what was wrong with it, they couldn't get it to work either, made 2 little Birthday girls unhappy, sending this back. I should have listened to the other reviews but I thought I would take a chance. If I could give it zero stars I would have.
